Years before he became Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai voiced his reservations regarding the company’s cooperation with Apple’s search engine. Pichai has previously expressed concern about Google’s “bad optics” in his role as head of the team that was responsible for developing the Chrome web browser in 2007. According to reports from the Justice Department, Google pays Apple $10 billion year to ensure that it is the pre-installed search engine on all Apple products, including the iPhone.

According to evidence provided by the Justice Department during the ongoing antitrust trial, Pichai sent emails to Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 2007 outlining how the arrangement with Apple may damage the user’s experience on browsers. The emails were written to emphasize how the agreement with Apple could affect the user’s experience.

“I am aware that we are urging that default be used, but at the same time, I believe that we ought to push them to have Yahoo as a choice on the pull down menu or some other simple option. Pichai stated his thoughts on the matter in an email, writing that “I don’t think it is a good user experience nor the optics is great for us to be the only provider in the browser.”

Statements from top executives of other technology companies, such as Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, and DuckDuckGo, have been included in the continuing litigation. These executives have shared their experiences with Alphabet’s search business and the competition it faces. In an effort to draw attention to the benefit that Apple is providing to Google, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella said in court that “it would be a game changer” for Bing to be the default search engine on Safari.

While this is going on, Google is attempting to defend itself in the ongoing trial by stating that users choose to use its search engine because it is superior to those of its competitors. The legal representatives for the corporation have stated that they do not believe the allegations that default status plays a significant influence in the company’s access to the market. The legal team representing Google contends that users can quickly switch their search engine with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Notably, Apple’s Safari web browser has used Google as its default search engine ever since the browser’s release in 2002. The year 2021 saw a renegotiation of the cooperation between Google and Apple.

The world’s most popular search engine, Google, has introduced 360-degree video backdrops for users of mobile Phones. The company announced the inclusion of the 360-degree video backdrops to their inventory of immersive backgrounds for mobile users of Meet in a blog post. “We’ve added new 360-degree video backdrops to our inventory of immersive backgrounds for mobile users of Meet.”

In addition, Google Meet incorporates the gyroscope of the mobile device into some backdrops, such as the beach and the temple, to produce a dynamic experience that responds to the movements of the user.

“Administrators have the ability to turn on backgrounds for their users or turn them off. According to Google, users of Google Workspace and personal Google Accounts can access the feature on their Android and iOS devices respectively.

It was stated that the apps were “illegally and deceptively” using NADRA’s name and products to impersonate NADRA and mislead users into believing that the apps were in some way officially affiliated with, authorised by, or operated by NADRA.
Google is not leaving any stone unturned as it gets ready to launch its own AI services. On Friday, news came out that Alphabet Inc. has put more than $400 million into the artificial intelligence startup Anthropic. This put the company in the spotlight. Anthropic has been testing a chat bot that could compete with OpenAI’s groundbreaking ChatGPT. And this move comes at a time when Google, which has been feeling the heat, has been making sneaky moves to get better at AI.

Dario Amodei, who was VP of research at OpenAI, and his sister Daniela started Anthropic in San Francisco in 2021. Their goal was to make large-scale AI systems that are easy to understand and reliable. TechCrunch said that Dario left OpenAI because he thought the AI industry needed to move beyond a few innovations like GPT-3. The Amodei brothers and sisters have been working on the idea that most AI models are not fully understood.

ICYMI: Google vs. Open AI: How the search giant will go up against ChatGPT
In January, the AI community found out that Claude, an AI system made by a company started by former OpenAI employees, was similar to ChatGPT. It was only available in a closed beta, so not much is known about it. In any case, several beta testers have talked about their experiences with Claude on social media.
Claude said that Anthropic made him with a method called “constitutional AI.” In a Twitter thread posted on December 16 of last year, the company said that Claude’s goal is to offer a “principle-based” approach that aligns AI systems with human goals. This means that it uses artificial intelligence (AI) like ChatGPT to answer questions based on a simple set of rules.
Anthropic started building Claude by putting together a list of 10 rules that work together to make a “constitution.” Even though these principles haven’t been made public yet, Anthropic has said that they are based on the ideas of beneficence, which means maximising good effects, nonmaleficence, which means not giving bad advice, and autonomy, which means respecting the right to choose. Claude is a statistical tool that predicts words, just like ChatGPT and other language models.

Anthropic says that Claude read a lot of text from the web and learned how words appear based on the meaning of the text around them. This has made it possible for Claude to have open-ended conversations, tell jokes, and talk about a wide range of philosophical ideas.

How does Google feel about all of this?
The investment has not been talked about by either Google or Anthropic. But they have also announced a separate partnership in which the AI startup will use Google’s cloud computing services. The investment comes at a time when ChatGPT is very popular and Google’s parent company missed both its top and bottom lines in the fourth quarter. Recent developments like ChatGPT and other AI-powered technologies seem to have pushed the search engine giant to come up with new ways to stay on top.
The search giant is worried about the growth of OpenAI’s chatbot. A normal search would give you links and images related to your questions, but ChatGPT gives you short sentences that sound like they were written by a person. The app goes a step further by letting you make content from scratch, which is a very disruptive feature. All of these things show that big changes are coming for Google and its products and services.

Using AI to make changes

Maybe this is why Google seems to be rushing to come up with its own AI breakthrough. The New York Times recently said that the tech giant has asked Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the founders of its parent company Alphabet, for help. In the same report, it was also said that Google’s founders had already agreed to plans that included adding chatbots. The company wants to release more than 20 AI products and will show off a version of Google with chatbot features.
All of this happens at the same time that Microsoft is putting a lot of money into AI and ChatGPT. Google has been working with the language model LaMDA (Language Model For Dialogue Applications). With Anthropic in the mix, it remains to be seen how powerful Google’s AI vision will be and if it will take over the AI industry.

Google Celebrates Popularity Of Bubble Tea

Today, Google is making a cute and interactive doodle to show how Popularity Of Bubble Tea is all over the world. Bubble tea is a non-alcoholic cold tea drink that is also called boba tea and pearl milk tea. The name comes from the way the tapioca pearls, which look like bubbles in the drink, look like they are made of jelly. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the drink got a lot of attention, especially from Gen-Z and millennials.
Google has chosen January 29 Popularity Of Bubble Tea because it was announced on this day in 2020 that the famous drink would get its own emoji.

To honour the sweet and sour drink, Google has made a fun, interactive doodle that lets people make their own milk teas and run their own shops. Users only have to click on the doodle, and an animation will start playing on the screen. Netizens play as a Formosan Mountain Dog who runs a bubble tea stand in the middle of a rainy forest in the interactive doodle. In the game, making tea is easy. All the player has to do is fill the cup with each ingredient, like milk and boba balls, until they reach a certain line.

Before the shop closes for the day, players will have to complete five orders, each one getting harder than the last. When each drink is done, the customers line up their straws and poke them through the lid.

The doodle page says, “Satisfy your hunger and make a delicious cup of bubble tea with today’s interactive Doodle, which features Taiwan’s native Formosan Mountain Dog and a group of familiar Doodle characters!”

Google wrote on its Doodle page about the origins of the drink, “This Taiwanese drink started out as a local treat, but over the last few decades, it has become very popular. Traditional Taiwanese tea culture, which goes back to the 17th century, is where Popularity Of Bubble Tea comes from. But bubble tea as we know it today didn’t come into being until the 1980s.”

It went on to say, “Waves of Taiwanese immigrants have brought this drink to other countries over the past few decades, and the original bubble tea keeps getting better. Shops all over the world are still trying out new tastes, ingredients, and combinations. Traditional tearooms in Asia have also joined the boba trend, which has spread to places like Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and more!”

Recent layoffs at Google Employee have had a significant impact on staff. Sundar Pichai, the company’s chief executive officer (CEO), sent an email to employees earlier this month telling them of the extensive layoffs and claiming “full responsibility” for them. Since then, other employees have utilised social media to express their sorrow and recount their experience at the software giant. A woman who gave birth to their second kid on January 19 also related her experience of being laid off while still in the hospital with her newborn child.
Kate Howells, who held a number of positions at Google for nearly a decade, shared on LinkedIn how the happiest day of her life was tarnished by melancholy. She stated that being let off from her work while still recovering from childbirth led to a variety of conflicting feelings during her hospital stay.

“I never thought I’d say this, but I was laid off while in labour. Last Thursday, 1/19/23, at 8:59 p.m., I gave birth to my second kid, Ronin Mark Watson. On 1/20/23 at 7:05 a.m., while lying in a hospital bed with my newborn child, I discovered that I was among #thegolden12,000 Google Employee who had been laid off. I worked at Google for 9.5 years “Ms. Howells authored a post.

Ms. Howells remarked that it was a very trying time for her. “A very arduous and emotionally perplexing postpartum hospitalisation. The waves of physical tiredness and pain, hormones, adrenaline, astonishment, feelings of loss, and love for my newborn and my great birth and life partner Alan Watson merged. During those 48 hours, I was unable to comprehend anything “She stated,

The former Google Employee disclosed in her article that she will soon be relocating to Phoenix, Arizona with her family. She also expressed confidence that she will be able to overcome the challenge.

Ms. Howells said, “The endpoint is unclear to me in this newborn haze, but I know I can regain control of this story, and when I look back I’ll be so grateful that this lead me to (fill in the blank).”

Post a comment
Mr. Pichai has announced that Google will “assist” all 12,000 terminated employees as they seek alternative employment. In addition, a severance package was granted, “beginning with 16 weeks salary plus two weeks for each year thereafter at Google, and accelerating at least 16 weeks of GSU vesting.” Additionally, the now-former employees will be compensated for the duration of their notice period, which is at least sixty days. In addition, last year’s incentives and unused vacation time will be paid out to affected employees, the tech giant declared.

An HR official at Google was astonished to find that he had been dismissed while on the phone with a potential employee. Dan Lanigan According to Business Insider, Ryan, a recruiter working for Morgan McKinley in Google’s Dublin office, learnt he had been fired after his ongoing conversation with one of his applicants unexpectedly halted.
Ryan attempted to access the company’s internal website during the call but was unable. According to accounts, his teammates faced similar difficulties, but their manager blamed them on technical difficulties. Ryan’s official email and the phone call with his candidate were both later terminated.
Ryan didn’t realise Google had laid off 12,000 employees until he was prevented from using all of his company’s services. According to Ryan, he did not get any official notification of his termination from Google and that all he had gotten were emails from Morgan McKinley advising him that the firm would continue to pay him notice until February 3 and that he should return his office equipment.

Ryan worked under a contract that was extended by Google by one year from its planned expiration date in September 2022. He and a handful of his coworkers were shifted from the hiring of marketing staff to the hiring of Google Cloud personnel, a rapidly growing area. Ryan told the news website that this gave him hope that he was safe.

Google has been chastised by its employees for a lack of support, increased openness, and inadequate communication following the recent announcement of the loss of 12,000 jobs. The need for answers to questions such as the rationale for the firing, what Pichai meant when he wrote in his email that he accepted “full responsibility” for the events that led to the firm’s demise, and other similar inquiries is causing dissatisfaction among employees.
Some Google employees have taken to the company’s question-and-answer website Dory to criticise the company’s leadership and the reasons for the layoffs.

On Tuesday, Ryan disclosed his layoff on LinkedIn.

On Friday, I, like tens of thousands of other Google employees, was let go.

I accepted a dream job at a dream company a little over a year ago. I nearly choked the poor animal when my recruiter called to let me know I’d gotten the position.

Everything came to an abrupt halt 16 months later when I was locked out of the system while on a call. I had not expected this.

My contract was just extended for an additional year, I was transferred to the Cloud Sales recruitment team (an area of significant growth), and there was talk of a compensation increase only a week ago.

I will be eternally grateful for everything I learned and all the lovely people I had the pleasure of working with.

CEO Sundar Pichai emailed all of Google’s staff to let them know that the business has already alerted affected employees in the United States.
Pichai added that the process of laying off employees would take longer in other nations due to their own legal systems.

About 6% of Google’s total worldwide workforce is affected by the layoffs.
It is unclear what percentage of the jobs are located in the United States.

Big Tech employees have had a rough January.
On Thursday, Microsoft said that it would be laying off around 5% of its staff, or 10,000 people.
Both Amazon and Salesforce have had layoff announcements made in the past month.

As a result of rampant hiring during the pandemic, employers say they are finding themselves in a difficult position to make layoffs as the economy remains unstable.

“There have been times of tremendous expansion over the past two years.
We made hires anticipating a more favourable economic climate in order to keep up with, and even drive, that expansion “said Pichai in an internal email and a public filing with regulators.
