In contrast, West Indies finished in eighth place in the World Test Championship cycle of 2021-23. The previous Test series was a 0-2 loss to South Africa. As a result of failing to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be held in India, the island nation has been going through a difficult period. They failed to qualify for the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup earlier in 2022. Therefore, captain Kraigg Brathwaite will be keen to reverse his team's fortunes in the upcoming series. Since 2002, India has been undefeated against the Windies in Tests, having won eight consecutive series.
