Thiruvananthapuram

Though often used as a gateway to nearby beach resorts, Thiruvananthapuram offers plenty of its own to reward travellers who stay. From South Indian cuisine and a sophisticated art scene to architectural treasures and historic landmarks, there’s so much to experience in Kerala’s capital.

Even before National Geographic Traveler included it on their list of “must see” places, Thiruananthapuram, the crowning glory of the emerald necklace that is Kerala for the Indian subcontinent, must surely have Parasuramanlong since been considered a “must see” destination in its own right. It must have been a very long time ago before the times of Mahabali, the democratic and just ruler of this wonderful land who was cast down to the underworld due to deceit. According to a local legend, Sage Parasurama threw his divine battle axe from Kanyakumari to Gokarnam to west Kerala, which is known as God’s own land. It is not a stretch of the imagination to think that this land sparked the curiosity of daring travelers and explorers such as Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Marco Polo, Fa Hien, and quite possibly countless others from the pages of history, recorded or not.
