The Ben Stokes-led England has gotten off to a terrible start in the 2023 Ashes. After losing the first Test at Edgbaston by the narrowest of margins, England was unable to mount a series recovery at Lord’s and went on to lose the second Test by 43 runs.
Australia will enter the third Test without the services of veteran spinner Nathan Lyon, who sustained a calf injury in the second match. As his replacement, Todd Murphy, age 22, would be anticipated to play in the third Test at Headingley.
Murphy has opened up about his jitters ahead of a prospective Ashes debut prior to the highly anticipated match. After Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal in the second Test, the 22-year-old expects a hostile atmosphere at Headingley.
“They made a lot of noise but were all friendly; speaking with the lads, I believe this is the most hostile stadium in England. As someone who grew up watching Ashes cricket, I’m looking forward to it if I ever get the chance. It will be different, and I’m sure they won’t hold back, so just accept it and attempt to enjoy yourself…Murphy was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying, “No one is under any delusions that the competition will be easy.”

Murphy anticipates that they will likely attack me with even more vigor
Murphy also stated that he is completely prepared for an encounter with England’s ‘Bazball’ strategy and is aware that the English batters will target him more due to his inexperience.
“I believe they’ll likely attack me even more aggressively; I haven’t played a great deal of Test cricket, so this is a challenge.” Murphy stated, “I think it’s about navigating through that, coming up with a few different ideas that can help, and trying to keep creating opportunities.”
