Tripura Election 2023: Tripura is voting in a multi-sided election in which the ruling BJP hopes to do well. The CPM has unexpectedly allied with the Congress, and the Trinamool is also exerting considerable effort. In the event of a tied vote, the new party Tipra Motha holds all the cards.
Here are the 10 points cheatsheet on Tripura Election 2023
.The CPM dominated Tripura for more than three decades until 2018, when the BJP made history by winning 36 of the 60 seats in a state where it had been almost nonexistent.
.As a hedge against MLA desertion, the BJP established an alliance with the regional IPFT (Indigenous Progressive Front of Tripura), which won eight seats, despite surpassing the majority threshold of 31 seats.
.The CPM, which ruled Tripura for 35 years, has allied with the Congress, and its campaign is led by its four-time chief minister, Manik Sarkar. The Left Front will compete for 47 of the state’s 60 seats, leaving the Congress with just 13 seats.
.In 2018, the CPM won 16 seats, while the Congress, the primary opposition in the previous house, won nothing. The CPM hopes that their cooperation will increase their vote totals in around 13 seats. However, the partnership has raised concerns in Kerala, where the two parties have been bitter adversaries for decades.
.The Tipra Motha, the new party founded by former king Pradyot Kishore Debbarma with a central demand for a larger Tipraland, could complicate the BJP’s campaign. Despite having the local party IPFT on its side, the BJP has lost some seats during the past five years. In the Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections of 2021, IPFT was wiped out and was forced to accept only five seats in order to compete.
.Initially, the BJP attempted to establish a connection with the Tipra Motha, but its overtures were rejected. After the BJP vowed that it would not permit the split of Tripura, the Tipra Motha strengthened its stance and retaliated against Union minister Amit Shah’s accusation that it was the “B Team of the CPM-Congress.”
.“In Nagaland, the BJP is the B Team. In Meghalaya, Shillong, and Garo Hills, they are the opposition party’s B-Team. In Mizoram, you are the B-Team of another party. In Tamil Nadu, you are the AIADMK’s B-Team. You are the B-Team of the Akali Dal in Punjab. The BJP is the second-tier party in India. Tipra Motha is not submissive nor accommodating “Mr. Debbarma, whose party is running for 42 seats, stated that.
.Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam and a spokesman for the BJP in the northeast, has forecast a dramatic improvement in the party’s performance in all three northeastern states holding elections in this round.
.“In Meghalaya, the BJP will become an increasingly significant political force. In Tripura, we will retain power with a larger margin of victory, and in Nagaland, we will once again establish a coalition government with the NDPP “Mr. Sarma revealed in an exclusive interview with NDTV. Manik Saha, the chief minister of Tripura, has projected a “tsunami” of votes for the BJP.
