Trump says he will be arrested Tuesday, asks supporters to protest

Trump said on social media that “illegal leaks” from the Manhattan district attorney’s office indicated that he would be arrested.

In response to an investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, the former president said he expects to be arrested on March 21. Citing unnamed leaks in the investigation, he called for protests to “take our nation back.”

Trump combined his remarks with a new verbal assault on investigators in an all-caps post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, alleging that they are chasing a “fairytale” that has been disproved.

A grand jury inquiry into a purported hush-money payment made by Trump to porn star Stormy Daniels to prevent her from speaking out about an alleged ten-year sexual encounter is being led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Trump called Bragg’s probe “a political witch hunt” and denied any wrongdoing.

On Wednesday, Michael Cohen, Trump’s longtime attorney and fixer, finished testifying before the grand jury. For the prosecution, Cohen would be a key witness.

In 2018, he admitted to conspiring to organise Daniels’ unauthorised receipt of hush money when he entered a plea to federal fraud and campaign finance charges. Cohen claimed he gave Daniels $130,000 and received it back. He displayed a check that was signed by Trump to a congressional commission. He claimed that Trump had given him the order to strike.
