UIDAI Offers Free Online Document Update Service for Aadhaar till June 14

UIDAI has made the Aadhaar online document update service free until June 14, according to an official statement released on Wednesday

The Unique Identification Authority of India has made the Aadhaar online document update service free until June 14, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.

Previously, residents had to pay Rs. 25 to update their information on the Aadhaar portal.

“The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has decided to enable residents to amend their Aadhaar documents online for free, which will benefit millions of residents…

The complimentary service is available from March 15 to June 14, 2023, inclusively “stated the official statement.

In accordance with the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, Aadhaar number holders are required to update their supporting documents in Aadhaar at least once every 10 years from the date of their Aadhaar enrollment, by submitting proof of identity (POI) and proof of address (POA) documents, so as to ensure the continued accuracy of their information.

“It is essential to note that this service is free only on the myAadhaar portal and will continue to incur a Rs. 50 charge at physical Aadhaar centres,” according to the statement.

However, standard fees will apply if a document is submitted to modify demographic information (Name, Date of Birth, Address, etc).

The success rate of Aadhaar authentication is increased when documents are up-to-date, which improves the quality of life and government service delivery.

“The UIDAI has been encouraging residents to upload Proof of Identity and Proof of Address (PoI/PoA) documents to revalidate their demographic information, particularly if their Aadhaar was issued more than ten years ago and never got updated. This will contribute to enhanced living comfort, improved service delivery, and a higher authentication success rate “stated the statement.

Nearly 1,200 central and state government initiatives and programmes use Aadhaar-based identification for service delivery. Several other services, including financial institutions such as banks and NBFCs, use Aadhaar to seamlessly authenticate and enrol consumers.
