Ukraine suggests China should exert pressure on Russia to cease hostilities.

Any reconciliation efforts, according to Kiev, must include a complete Russian troop withdrawal and respect for Ukraine ‘s territorial integrity.

Kyiv expects China to use its influence on Russia to end the conflict in Ukraine, said Oleg Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian foreign ministry, on Monday.

“Ukraine is closely monitoring the Chinese president’s visit to Russia,” Nikolenko told Reuters shortly after Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

We expect Beijing to use its influence with Moscow to terminate Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine.

Following the release of a 12-point plan, Xi was anticipated to emphasise Beijing’s potential peacemaking role in the conflict. Kiev asserts that any peace measures must involve a complete Russian troop withdrawal and respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Nikolenko stated, “We stand ready to engage in a closer dialogue with China in order to restore peace in Ukraine in accordance with the principles enshrined in the U.N. Charter and the most recent UNGA resolution on this matter.”
