“Very difficult to engage with neighbour who practices cross-border terrorism…”: Jaishankar on Pakistan

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a veiled jab at Pakistan by stating that it is very difficult to engage with a neighbor who engages in cross-border terrorism against India.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a veiled jab at Pakistan by stating that it is very difficult to engage with a neighbor who engages in cross-border terrorism against India.

In Panama City, the External Affairs Minister made the above remarks during a simultaneous press conference with the Foreign Minister of Panama, Janaina Tewanay Mencomo. Following a discussion of several bilateral issues pertaining to health and commerce, a press briefing was held.

Jaishankar stated, “The crux of this issue is that it is extremely challenging for us to engage with a neighbor who engages in cross-border terrorism against us. We have always stated that they must uphold their promise not to encourage, sponsor, or engage in transnational terrorism. We continue to hold out optimism that we will reach that point one day.”

EAM Jaishankar is in Panama for two days. On Monday, he arrived in Panama City and was greeted by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Francos.

Jaishankar announced on his official Twitter account, “Arrived in Panama City. Thank @VladimirFrancoS, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, for the cordial welcome. Anticipate a full bilateral and multilateral agenda.”

EAM Jaishankar also attended the India-Latin America Business event, where he delivered a keynote speech highlighting ten key reasons why the India-Panama business collaboration has strong prospects and merit-oriented endeavors.

After his visit to Panama, the EAM will travel to Colombia on April 25, where he will meet with several government, business, and civil society leaders. The Ministry of External Affairs stated in a press release that his trip to Colombia would be the country’s first visit by a Foreign Minister.

Jaishankar and his counterpart in Colombia, Alvaro Leyva Duran, will examine bilateral relations. According to a MEA release, Jaishankar will travel to the Dominican Republic after his trip to Colombia.

This is the highest-level visit from India to the Dominican Republic since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1999. The visit of Jaishankar occurs following the establishment of India’s resident Embassy in Santo Domingo in 2022.
