On Wednesday, Ganesh Khakhar confirmed that veteran actor Sameer Khakhar, best known for his roles in television programmes such as Nukkad, had died. Sameer, who appeared in the film Jai Ho by Salman Khan, passed away due to multiple organ failure. According to a report, Sameer also experienced respiratory and urinary complications. He was 71. Veteran actor Sameer Khakhar, best known for his roles in TV shows such as Nukkad and Circus, has died at the age of 71 due to multiple organ failure, according to his younger sibling Ganesh Khakhar.
Ganesh Khakhar, cousin sibling of Sameer Khakhar, told ETimes in an interview: “After suffering from respiratory problems, he fell asleep and became unconscious. We contacted the physician, who recommended that we admit him to the hospital. His heart was not functioning adequately, and he also had urinary problems. He was kept on a ventilator until he succumbed at 4:30 a.m. today.”
The report added that Sameer Khakhar died at the MM Hospital in Borivali, Mumbai, where he had been admitted. According to reports, Sameer’s funeral will be conducted on Wednesday morning at the Babhai naka crematorium in Borivali.
On Twitter, the director Hansal Mehta shared images of Sameer and paid his respects. He wrote, “For some reason, in college I was referred to as Khopdi, after his iconic character in Nukkad. My closest acquaintances from that period still refer to me as Khopdi. But I suppose it’s time to bid farewell to the original. Farewell Sameer Khakhar. “We appreciate the recollections.”
Sameer Khakhar had worked in the television and motion picture industries. He appeared on a variety of television programmes, including Nukkad, Manorajan, Circus, Naya Nukkad, Shrimaan Shrimati, and Adaalat. He was most recently seen in the film Sanjivani alongside Surbhi Chandna and Namit Khanda. He was also well-known in the Gujarati theatre scene.

Sameer Khakhar, best known for his role as Khopdi in Nukkad, stated in a 2021 interview that he was seeking out excellent roles, which he claimed had ceased to come his way. He had stated, in an interview with The Indian Express, “I do not wish to appear depressed by stating that I am dissatisfied with the current state of affairs… Nonetheless, I sincerely hope that the quantity of work I seek comes my way. I am anxious to appear before the camera.”
