Wayanad Congress unit to observe Black Day: Friday, the Congress announced a nationwide protest against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha. A court in Surat sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in jail in a defamation case on Thursday, filed on a complaint by BJP MLA Purnesh Modi for his alleged remark, “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?”. The notification from the secretariat states that his disqualification as MP for Wayanad is operative as of the date of his conviction, March 23.
The Congress’ state units and frontal organisations will launch programmes across the country and they will begin from Monday with a countrywide agitation, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh said. As part of the protest, the Wayanad District Congress Committee will observe “Black Day” today, according to Wayanad District Congress Committee President ND Appachan.
Congress attacked the government over Rahul Gandhi’s qualifications, calling it “a black day for Indian democracy” and declaring that the battle will be waged “legally and politically.”Additionally, the Opposition party claimed that the action was motivated by “political vendetta.”
