Tata Group has secured the title rights for the inaugural Women’s Premier League, which begins on March 4 in Mumbai.
“I am delighted to announce TataGroup as the inaugural Women’s Premier League title sponsor. With their support, we are confident that we can take women’s cricket to the next level,” tweeted Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
BCCI sources confirmed to Sportstar that the Tata Group, which also sponsors the men’s Indian Premier League, has acquired the WPL rights for five years. The Indian multinational conglomerate replaced Vivo as the IPL’s title sponsor last year.
Getting the Tata Group on board as the title sponsor is a huge deal for the WPL, which will be played at two venues in Mumbai – the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium – although the value of the deal is not yet known.
