On Thursday, in observance of World Ocean Day, Union Earth Science Minister Kiren Rijiju took part in a beach cleaning initiative at Chennai’s Besant Nagar Beach.
“On this World Ocean Day, we have gathered here not only to clean the beaches, but also to send a loud and clear message about how to keep our beaches clean,” said Rijiju.
The 8th of June has been designated by the United Nations as World Oceans Day, a day to commemorate the ocean.
World Oceans Day is observed in numerous methods across the globe. Several new campaigns have been introduced in an effort to raise awareness of ocean pollution. Multiple locations have launched beach cleanup campaigns.
The ocean encompasses over 70% of the earth’s surface. It is our life source, providing sustenance for humanity and all other organisms on earth.

The ocean generates at least fifty percent of the world’s oxygen, is home to the majority of the planet’s biodiversity, and is the primary source of protein for over a billion people worldwide. In addition, the ocean is essential to our economy, with an estimated 40 million jobs in ocean-based industries by 2030. Despite all its benefits, the ocean now requires assistance.
