Najam Sethi decided not to compete for the position of chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), paving the way for Zaka Ashraf’s return to the position. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has named Ashraf as the next leader of Pakistan cricket. Ashraf previously led the governing body from 2011 to 2013, and he is now returning to the position.
In addition to Ashraf’s appointment, Supreme Court attorney Mustafa Ramday has been given a crucial role in helping PCB expand. Notably, according to the law, the newly-appointed individuals will serve on a 10-person Board of Governors, which will then elect the new chairman of the council. However, given Ashraf’s influence and the support of the leading party, it is highly anticipated that he will be the next chairman of the PCB.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Sharif has already verified the news and appointed Ashraf and Mustafa to the PCB Board of Governors.
“The Prime Minister, in his capacity as Patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board and in accordance with Article 10 (1) (d) of the PCB’s constitution 2014, is pleased to nominate the following individuals for appointment as Members of the Board of Governors of PCB,” according to an official communication cited by Cricbuzz.
Notably, it is anticipated that the election will occur at the conclusion of June. Asif Ali Zardari Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) strongly advocated for a change in leadership, as former chairman Najam Sethi is a member of the rival Pakistan Muslim League. Significantly, he was appointed for four months, but his contract was extended by two months in order to resolve the Asia Cup conundrum. Once the problem was resolved, Sethi decided to leave PCB.

“Salaam everyone! I do not wish to be a source of discord between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. Such insecurity and uncertainty are detrimental to PCB. Under these conditions, I am not a candidate for PCB Chairman. On Monday, Sethi tweeted his resignation and wished everyone involved the best of success.
