President Droupadi Murmu, who completes her one year in office on Tuesday, has encountered 16,000 individuals, including over 1,750 members of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups, according to data provided by the president’s office.
Murmu, the first tribal woman to hold the highest office, reportedly encountered approximately 1,750 tribal members during her visits to Rajasthan, West Bengal, Telangana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh.
In the past year, she has encountered more than 16,000 people from various fields at Rashtrapati Bhavan and on official visits to states and Union Territories, according to the report.
During the first year, the President visited six of the eight north-eastern states, where she addressed the state assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram and attended important events such as the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Gauhati High Court and the statehood day celebrations of Arunachal Pradesh, according to the report.
The President granted his approval to 20 federal bills and 23 state bills, the document stated.
Murmu, a firm believer in transparency and efficacy, advocated for the Rashtrapati Bhavan to embrace technology and innovation to strengthen its connection with the people, according to the report.
As part of her vision to make the grand edifice accessible to the public, more than 90,000 people visited Rashtrapati Bhavan last year, and more than 1.7 lakh people visited its famous museum.
In addition to visiting INS Vikrant, where she interacted with naval officers and sailors, the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces flew a Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter aircraft on the Eastern front from the Tezpur Air Force Station.
On the diplomatic and international front, the President received Suriname’s highest honour, the “Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star”, made the first state visit by an Indian president to Serbia, and attended the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in London.
In addition to hosting the President of Egypt during this year’s Republic Day celebrations, 14 other Heads of State and Government were also welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
In a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday to commemorate the completion of her first year in office, Murmu initiated a number of projects on the President’s Estate, including the redevelopment of the Shiva temple on the campus, the construction of a cricket pavilion at the Sports Ground of Dr Rajendra Prasad Kendriya Vidyalaya, and an Artificial Intelligence gallery showcasing innovative solutions created by students and coaches, providing a glimpse into the grandeur of the iconic buil
She also inaugurated the Sutra-kala Darpan Gallery, a collection of antique textiles that narrated the rich legacy of Rashtrapati Bhavan, and the Janjatiya Darpan Gallery, which provided a glimpse of the cultural wealth and contributions of various tribal communities to the nation’s development.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan also launched a revamped website “which will serve as a comprehensive platform for information and communication with the public” and an e-book documenting Murmu’s first year in office.
She was given the first edition of a book titled “Preserving Health, Embracing Traditions” that highlights the AYUSH Wellness Centre on the President’s Estate.

During the launch of the website, Secretary to the President Rajesh Verma highlighted a number of citizen-centric initiatives undertaken by the Rashtrapati Bhavan over the past year, including opening Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra and Rashtrapati Nilayam to the public throughout the year, increasing visitor slots and the duration of Amrit Udyan’s opening, and organising a Chintan Shivir to encourage innovative thought, among others.
