India Joins Champions Group Of Global Crisis Response Group(GCRG) On UN Secretary-General’s Invitation: MEA

India has joins the champions group of the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) in response to an invitation from United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to PM Narendra Modi.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday that India has joins the champions group of the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) in response to an invitation from United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to PM Narendra Modi. According to the Ministry of External Affairs’ statement, India’s decision to join the group reflects its growing global leadership and commitment to addressing contemporary challenges.

“India has joined the Champions Group of the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG), accepting an invitation from United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) António Guterres to Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the statement read.

The UN Secretary General (UNSG) established the GCRG in March of last year to address essential and critical global issues such as food and energy security issues.

The Champions Group is comprised of the chiefs of state and government of Bangladesh, Barbados, Denmark, Germany, Indonesia, and Senegal, and it oversees the GCRG.

“The decision to join the group reflects India’s increasing global leadership and commitment to addressing contemporary global challenges,” the MEA stated in a statement.

“India’s participation will bolster the United Nations’ efforts to find result-oriented solutions to global development issues affecting developing nations in particular,” it said.

MEA Secretary (West) Sanjay Verma has been designated as the Sherpa for the GCRG procedure, according to a statement. The sherpas will meet virtually on Friday, and the Champions will convene on July 21.
