15 electrocuted at Namami Gange project site in Uttarakhand

15 persons were electrocuted and several others were injured in an accident involving a power transformer at a Namami Gange project site

An official reported on Wednesday that 15 persons were electrocuted and several others were injured in an accident involving a power transformer at a Namami Gange project site on the Alaknanda river in Chamoli district.

The official stated that among the deceased were three household guards and one police officer.

NK Joshi, the disaster management officer for the district of Chamoli, stated that the police had gone to the scene to compile a report regarding the electrocution of a construction worker on Tuesday night.

At that time, a surge of electricity at the same location struck police officers and curious bystanders, resulting in fatalities and injuries.

V Murugesan, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), told PTI that fifteen people were killed in the accident and that an investigation is currently ongoing.

Some of the injured have been transported by helicopter to AIIMS-Rishikesh, while others have been admitted to the district hospital.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lamented the loss of life and announced that a magisterial investigation has been conducted.
