Vivek Agnihotri has commented on the ongoing Adipurush controversy and how the film’s portrayal of characters has offended the sensibilities of the people. Vivek stated in a recent interview that logic does not work when discussing religion because it is a sensitive topic. Additionally, he stated that it is a sin to attempt to shake people’s faith and harm their feelings.
Adipurush row
Post-release, Adipurush, an adaptation of the epic Ramayana, has received severe criticism. From critics to reviewers, many had reservations about the film’s dialogue. “marega bete,” “bua ka bagicha hain kya,” and “jalegi tere baap ki” are some of the dialogues for which the filmmakers have drawn criticism. In response to online outrage and negative reviews, the creators of Adipurush by Om Raut revised the dialogue.
Vivek on Adipurush
According to India.com Vivek stated in Hindi, “When it comes to Astha, we are extremely responsible and considerate. Aapki kya aastha hai, kisi ki kya aastha hai… jaise kisi ka bacha hai aur maa ko agta hai ki mera bacha duniya me sabse sundar hai, toh mujhe koi haq nahi bolne ka ki vo thoda kam sundar hai nay nahi sundar hai. Vo maa ki aastha aur prem ha. Prem aur aastha ke mamle me sari rationale fail ho jati hai. A film about people’s faith requires extreme sensitivity and accountability. Your beliefs may be dissimilar to mine. Similarly, if a mother believes that her child is the most attractive child in the world, I have no right to disprove her because her belief and affection are based on truth. There is no logic involved in matters of faith and affection. It is a sin in and of itself to attempt to shake this faith, to hurt the sentiments and beliefs of these individuals.
When asked if the CBFC committee objected to various sequences and lines of dialogue in Adipurush, he responded, “I am a member of the CBFC board. We do not view the film for certification purposes. The film is viewed by ordinary men and women. I do not know what happened to the film and who viewed it at each stage. I have not yet seen the film…Therefore, I know little about the film. If you were to review my past statements and comments, you would notice that I rarely discuss other films. I never comment on the films made by others, regardless of their quality. However, I would say that religious matters are quite delicate.”
