Mepantigan, Bali – Wanderela

Mepantigan is a traditional form of martial arts in Bali, but it has also become a popular tourist draw. This martial art has physical moves that are similar to those used in self-defense practices all over the world. But what makes Mepantigan different from other martial arts is that it combines Balinese drama, modern dance, and gamelan music with the performing arts to create a new culture extravaganza.

When you see this special art in action, you will see that the people who do it are very fit and strong, and that they are also good friends who treat each other with respect. Before they start practicing this art form, the people who do it will wear uniforms with a native Balinese touch. Most of the time, the fights happen on the beach, in the rice fields, or in any other open area in the town.

Putu Witsen Widjaya is the founder and head teacher of Mepantigan in Bali. He said that Mepantigan children will grow into people who destroy violence and build compassion. He thinks that if the right martial arts are learned and practiced with all of one’s strength, evil will be gone forever, and these arts will help people respect each other in a huge way. Witsen Widjawa says that Mepantigan is a celebration of the spirit.

The general rules of the fight are a bit like those of other martial arts, but they are also different. Performers are supposed to do some kind of warm-up act before the real fight starts. Fighters can throw, sweep, lock, and crease without being stopped. Fighters must wear traditional Balinese clothes, and they can’t wear shirts or T-shirts.

After a fight, the fighters should bow their heads or give each other a hug to show respect and sportsmanship. Depending on how you beat the fighter, you’ll get a different number. The fight will be looked at by a special panel. There is also a group of people who back both of the fighters.
