After Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Saturday, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra stated that New Delhi is closely pursuing the custody case of baby Ariha Shah with German authorities. The foreign secretary stated, “This is an extremely sensitive matter that we care deeply about, and our embassy has been in close contact with the parents and German authorities in an effort to find a solution.”
“Since it involves a baby, there are serious privacy concerns. It would not be appropriate for me to comment on those. But we care deeply about this issue, we are extremely sensitive, and we are in regular contact with the parents regarding this case “The foreign minister stated.
The case dates back to 2020, when German authorities took custody of Ariha Shah after her grandmother accidentally injured the infant. Since then, the custody dispute has continued. Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway is a yet-to-be-released film about the old Abhigyan-Aishwarya case, which has resurfaced in the context of renewed debate.
Following the release of the film’s trailer, the hashtag ‘boycott Germany’ trended on Twitter as it shed light on the similar case of baby Ariha, where the fight is ongoing.
The German authorities alleged that family members sexually assaulted the infant.
In December of last year, India’s foreign minister S. Jaishankar expressed concern that Ariha be raised in her linguistic, religious, cultural, and social environment. “Our embassy is pursuing this matter with the German government. It was a topic that I raised with the Minister “the EMEA stated.
