During his visit to New Delhi, the US President will laud Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s G20 leadership and “reaffirm the US commitment to the G20 as the premier forum for economic cooperation, which includes hosting it in 2026.”

India assumed the G20 presidency from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023 and has hosted numerous meetings across the country.

During Modi’s State visit to the United States in June of this year, Biden expressed his excitement for the G20 summit in New Delhi in September.

Biden applauded New Delhi’s leadership in its current G20 presidency, which brought a renewed focus on strengthening multilateral institutions and international cooperation to address “global challenges such as climate change, pandemics, fragility and conflict, along with work to accelerate achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and lay the foundation for strong, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive growth,” according to a joint statement from India and the United States.

Biden’s trip to India for the G20 Summit was also mentioned by Donald Lu, assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asia.

“This will be a pivotal year for the India-United States relationship. India hosts the G20, while the United States hosts APEC and Japan hosts the G7. We have many QUAD members who are assuming leadership positions, and this provides us with opportunities to bring our nations closer together, as Lu had previously stated.
