Call it the effects of climate change or the heat of the Ukraine war, Europe is witnessing record-breaking heat in days of bitterly cold winters. The first two days of January were extremely hot. The first two days of the new year were recorded as the hottest days. Such situations were observed in at least eight countries of Europe.

Thousands of records shattered in historic winter warm spell in Europe

According to media reports, Poland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Belarus, Lithuania and Latvia recorded the hottest January day ever. Europe’s meteorologists told The Guardian that weather records have been breaking at an alarming rate across Europe in the past few days.

According to meteorologist Maximiliano Herrera, who monitors the temperature, the temperature in the village of Korbielow in Poland reached 19 degrees Celsius. This is higher than the temperature living here in May. This is 18 degrees more than the average January temperature of 1 degree.
Similarly, in Javornik, Czech Republic, the mercury soared up to 19.6 degrees Celsius, while it averages 3 degrees Celsius these days. The temperature in Belarus in January is around zero degree, which reached 16.4 degree Celsius on Sunday, the first day of the new year 2023. This broke the country’s previous January record of 4.5 degrees Celsius. Germany, northern Spain and the south of France are also experiencing record heat in January. No such records have been broken or made in Norway, Britain, Ireland, Italy and the South-East Mediterranean countries.

The hottest summer in Europe’s history: Herrera

According to meteorologist Herrera, it can be considered the hottest summer in European history. Another meteorologist, Alex Burkill, also supported Herrera’s claim. He said that large parts of Europe are experiencing extreme heat, which is unheard of so far.

Due to global warming, a small glimpse of the future was seen.

According to another European meteorologist Scott Duncan, this temperature of Europe is shocking. Last year was also a very hot New Year, but this time it is breaking records. While it is difficult to pinpoint a specific cause, La Niña and warm sea surface conditions may play a role. Professor Bill McGuire, who monitors climate change, said the summer was forecast to be worse. The most worrying thing is that global warming is increasing rapidly. This is a small glimpse of the future, which will turn winter into a few months of dry, moist and mild weather. These will rarely see cold, snow or icy roads.
