Best 5 Ways to Persevere in Your Marriage for Better or Worse

Depend on God. All of the above is great. But without prayer and faith in the promises we found in God’s Word, our marriage would be nowhere or nothing like

For better or worse, it’s a common vow in marriage. Even if you aren’t married, you’ve probably heard the famous line from traditional wedding vows. To be honest, I don’t recall the rest of our vows as well. For some reason, though, the phrase “for better or worse” has stayed with me.

I doubt most couples actually understood what they were saying when they included that phrase in their wedding vows. My wife and I have been through both, and I’m relieved to report that we’ve come out on the other side.

It hasn’t been easy by any stretch of the imagination, and I can imagine that many couples have given up at the first sign of “worse.” It’s more convenient than sticking it out.

1. Remember your promise.

Just keeping in mind what you promised to do can be a great source of motivation at times. It’s not enough on its own, but it’s a good place to begin.

2. Remember the moments.

Look around at the different situations on your wedding day, Susan Merrill of Family First, the parent company of All Pro Dad, iMOM, and the Family Minute with Mark Merrill, advised my wife and me before our own nuptials. You can find strength in remembering these kinds of common experiences.

3. Have help.

We got through those tough times thanks to our close friendships with other couples and the advice they gave us. We might not be in this position of unity now if they hadn’t been there to support and join us.

4. Don’t accept anything less than a fulfilling marriage.

Sometimes you have to put your head down and refuse to settle for anything less than your finest effort. It’s not simple, but if you have no other choices, you’ll have to put in the effort.

5. Depend on God.

Good points have been made above. Our marriage would not be what it is now without the help of God and the faith we have in His Word. Our faith in God and love for one another are truly our greatest assets.
