Parliament Budget Session From Today:10 Points To Know

The Budget session will start with a joint address to the two Houses of Parliament by President Droupadi Murmu followed by the table of the Economic Survey by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday, a day before the Union Budget will be presented.

Beginning on Tuesday, the Parliament’s Budget session is anticipated to be turbulent as the Opposition seeks to bring up a number of concerns, including those pertaining to the stocks of the Adani Group and the contentious BBC documentary on the violence in Gujarat in 2002. The session will begin on Tuesday, the day before the presentation of the Union Budget, with a joint address by President Droupadi Murmu to the two Houses of Parliament, followed by the table of the economic survey for 2023 by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

1. The government’s top priorities during the session will be to win support for the motion of thanks to the president’s address and the finance bill, while the opposition plans to pressure the government on issues like the Adani-Hindenburg controversy, a national census of economic activity based on caste, and the bill establishing women’s reservations.

2. Following the President’s address at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, the economic survey will be presented.

3. On February 1, Sitharaman will deliver the final full-fledged Union Budget of the Narendra Modi administration prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

4. During the session, the government intends to introduce about 36 bills, four of which are connected to the budgetary process.

5. There will be 27 sittings in total, and the session will last until April 6 before a month-long break to review the budget documents. On February 14, the session’s first segment will come to an end. On March 12, Parliament will meet once more to discuss the second half of the budget.

6. On Monday, the government held an all-party meeting where the opposition parties voiced their concerns. The BBC documentary ban, claimed governor intervention in states ruled by opposition parties, and Adani stock were among the topics brought up by opposition leaders. RJD, CPI-M, CPI, AAP, and National Conference were among the parties who brought up the problem.

7. The BRS has made the decision to skip President Murmu’s customary speech.

8. According to two people familiar with the development, India will continue to have the fastest-growing major economy in the world in the upcoming fiscal year, with the official growth estimate likely to range between 9% and 6.8%.

9. After Sitharaman introduces the economic survey in the House, the chief economic adviser, V Anantha Nageswaran, will hold a press conference to discuss the survey in more detail. The government examines the economy’s performance over the previous year in the Economic Survey.A

10. Despite slowing from an estimated 7% in the fiscal year that ends on March 31, growth of 6.8% could still keep India among the world’s fastest-growing economies. It increased by 8.7% the year before, primarily as a result of distortions brought on by the pandemic.
