CEAT Cricket Awards 2023: Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav won batters award

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shubman Gill, as well as New Zealand’s Kane Williamson were honoured.

During the CEAT Cricket Awards ceremony on Monday, August 21, a number of cricketing luminaries were honoured with a variety of distinctions. Indian cricketers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shubman Gill, as well as New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, were recognised for their outstanding performances on the cricket field over the past year.

In 2022, Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed the CEAT T20 Bowler of the Year award for his outstanding performance with the ball. In 32 T20Is contested in 2022, the 33-year-old took 37 wickets at an average of 19.56 and an economy of 6.80. Young batting sensation Shubman Gill claimed both the ‘ODI batter of the year’ and ‘International Cricketer of the year’ titles.

Since the beginning of 2023, the 23-year-old has taken the cricketing community by storm with his dominant form. In the first three months of the year, Gill scored a hundred in all three formats, including a double century in ODIs. In addition, he scored 890 runs in 17 innings with an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.7 to claim the coveted Orange Cap in IPL 2023.

The batsman from Punjab received the award from Indian captain Rohit Sharma and thanked him and head coach Rahul Dravid for the opportunity, despite Ishan Kishan scoring a double century while commencing the innings.

In addition to Gill, Suraykumar Yadav was named T20 Batsman of the Year for his exploits in the shortest format of the game and his breathtaking strokeplay. The 32-year-old is presently ranked first among T20I batters, having scored over 1,000 runs in the format in 2022.

Kane Williamson Cricketer of the Year

Kane Williamson, a prominent batsman from New Zealand, won the ‘Test Cricketer of the Year’ award among international players. Since 2022, the 33-year-old has scored 852 runs in eight matches at an average of 71, including four centuries.

Tim Southee, the captain of the New Zealand Test team, accepted the award on Williamson’s behalf, while Brendon McCullum, the former captain of the New Zealand Test team and the current head coach of the England Test team, also attended the ceremony.
