Japanese PM Plans 3-Day India Visit: Even though Tokyo is in charge of the Group of Seven this year, Japanese PM Plans 3-Day India Visit this month to meet with his colleague Narendra Modi, a government source said on Friday, according to the Nikkei Asia.
Following his government’s decision not to dispatch Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi to a meeting of the G-20 top diplomats, held for two days through Thursday in New Delhi, Kishida would travel to India, which is presently chair of the Group of 20 economies for 2023.
Following Hayashi’s absence, concerns surfaced that the absence of Japan’s foreign minister from the G-20 meeting might have a negative impact on ties between the two Asian countries.
Kishida, who is anticipated to travel to India for three days starting on March 19, was reportedly eager to assure Modi that Tokyo and New Delhi, as this year’s G-7 and G-20 presidents, will collaborate more closely to address issues resulting from Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Japan has increased economic sanctions against Russia in tandem with other G-7 members. However, India has refrained from taking any retaliatory action against Russia.
The “Global South,” which refers to developing nations in regions like Asia, Africa, and Latin America, has seen India emerge as an important member.

According to a source , Kishida has been eager to strengthen ties with these nations in order to set the stage for the success of the G-7 in-person summit scheduled for May in Hiroshima, Japan’s westernmost city, which was decimated by an American atomic bomb during World War II.
