Corrupt Coming Together On One Stage: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a fierce assault today, branding the opposition’s nascent unity over Rahul Gandhi’s expulsion from parliament as a “coming together of the corrupt on one stage.” In one of his most powerful speeches outside of election seasons, Prime Minister Modi attacked the entire opposition in response to a Supreme Court petition by 14 parties claiming abuse of government agencies.
The highest court has been informed by the opposition parties’ petition that organizations like the Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate have only been focusing on the BJP’s political rivals. On April 15, the judge will hear the case.
“Our constitutional structures are well-established. This is why constitutional institutions are under assault to stop India, Prime Minister Modi said at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, highlighting what the BJP bills as its fight against corruption.
“When agencies move, they are criticized, and legal issues are brought up. In a harsh critique of the “Loktantra Bachao Mashal Shanti March” that the Congress attempted today, he said that some parties had begun the “Bhrashtachari Bachao Abhiyan”.
The Prime Minister also provided evidence to support his party’s assertions about reducing corruption.
“A total of 5,000 rupees was seized under the PMLA (law against money laundering) during the Congress administration. But since the BJP came into power, we have seized about 10,000 rupees. We have apprehended 20,000 economic offenders who escaped, he claimed.
According to the Prime Minister, such action is being done against the corrupt for the “first time in seven decades.”The action against corruption won’t be halted due to their (the opposition’s) false accusations, he continued. “When we will do so much, then some people will be upset and angry,” he said.
The opposition had come together at the start of the budget session of parliament over the concern that leaders from different political parties were increasingly being scrutinized by federal investigative agencies.
