At Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the 10th-place Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) by five runs to pull off the tournament’s biggest upset. Despite losing five wickets in the powerplay, the Capitals’ bowlers put on a memorable performance to secure victory.
The Delhi Capitals unexpectedly elected to bowl first after winning the toss. Mohammed Shami dismissed Phil Salt on the first delivery of the match, and captain David Warner was run out in the second over to give the 10th-place team the worst possible start.
Shami wreaked pandemonium in the powerplay by claiming three more wickets to leave DC struggling at 22-5, with many fearing the Delhi-based team was on its way to scoring the lowest total in IPL history. However, Axar Patel and Aman Khan put together a consistent 51-run partnership. Axar was dismissed after scoring 27 runs off 30 balls, but Aman maintained his assault to help his team reach 130 runs. Ripal’s fast 13-ball 23 contributed to his team’s impressive finish.

Wriddhiman Saha was dismissed for a single in the first over, and Shubman Gill scored only six runs before Anrich Norjte dismissed him in the third over with the first delivery of his spell. Vijay Shankar and David Miller were ineffective as Ishant Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav took the crucial wickets to reduce GT to 32-4.
Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar’s 62-run partnership set up an exciting conclusion to the match. The DC bowlers did an outstanding job of turning the game in their favor before Rahul Tewatia turned the tables by blasting Nortje for three sixes, requiring GT to score 12 runs in the final over.
Ishant Sharma conceded only three runs in his first three deliveries before dispatching Rahul Tewatia with his fourth delivery. He prevented Rashid Khan from scoring a boundary with the next two deliveries.
