Opposition Or Alliance: On Monday, the National Congress Party (NCP), which emerged victorious in the elections for the Nagaland assembly with seven seats, will reveal whether it will join the NDPP-BJP alliance or opposition.
The leaders of the party in Nagaland have stated that the delay in the decision is due to concerns regarding the inclusion of the BJP as a member of the winning coalition. They went on to say that party leader Sharad Pawar would make the ultimate decision.
At a press conference, NCP general secretary Narendra Verma made the following statement: “This is the fruit of our labours in the northeastern region of India over the course of the last ten years. During the previous four months, I had travelled throughout Nagaland, with a particular emphasis on the eastern regions of the state. The votes of the people of Nagaland have been entrusted to us, and in two days we will convene a meeting to decide who will lead the opposition party.”
“I have taken into account not only the perspectives of the MLAs, but also the viewpoints of the state party officials. The high leadership in Delhi will make the final determination regarding whether or not to join the government or to continue serving in the opposition, as well as who will serve as the leader of the legislative party. After I have informed national president Sharad Pawar on Sunday, a judgement will be made within the next couple of days, “Mr Verma added.
In the elections that took place on February 27 across all 60 seats of the assembly, the NCP nominated candidates for 12 of those seats.
