The American whisky that has been matured in oak barrels Bourbon is a booming business, but its warehouses are leading to a negative development that is known as “whisky fungus.” Whiskey fungus is a crusty or sometimes velvety mycelium that ranges in colour from black to grey. It is caused by the storage of bourbon.
In Lincoln County, Tennessee, homes, vehicles, outdoor furniture, and road signs have all developed a sooty crust as a result of the black growth that has been propelled by alcohol vapours from containers of aged Jack Daniel’s whisky. This growth has been seen throughout the county.

A local woman by the name of Christi Long has launched a complaint against the corporation Jack Daniel’s over fungus that is caused by barrel houses. This comes at the same time that Jack Daniel’s plans to construct seven new warehouses in its remote home county to age whisky.

A local judge put a stop to the construction of a new barrel warehouse for the American whisky brand that is considered to be the most popular whisky brand in the world, as reported by The Guardian.

According to the BBC, the legal representative for Mrs. Long, Jason Holleman, asserted that whisky manufacturers frequently characterise the evaporation process, which is also known as “the angels’ share,” without disclosing the fungus that results from it.

“You will learn about the “angel’s share” that evaporates into the air if you go on one of these excursions of distilleries. And unfortunately, the outcome of that is the fungus known as the devil’s foot, “he said.
A representative for Brown-Forman, the company headquartered in Louisville that is the owner of Jack Daniel’s, stated that “We have the utmost regard for the decision made by the chancellor and are excited to collaborate with Lincoln County on revised licences. Regarding the planning, building, and obtaining of permits for our barrelhouses in Lincoln County, the Jack Daniel Distillery will continue to act in a manner that is compliant with applicable laws and industry standards.”
