Holi 2023: 6 effective ways to keep your eyes safe when playing with colours

Holi colours usually have chemicals like lead, chromium, mercury and other toxic substances that can cause injury or permanent damage to your vision. Here are tips to safeguard your eyes while playing Holi.

Holi 2023: During Holi, the number of people who get eye infections and skin allergies goes up, so it’s important to take care before playing with colours. Even more so if you wear contact lenses, you should take them out before playing Holi because the colour can get into them and hurt your eyes. Most Holi colours have chemicals in them like lead, chromium, mercury, and other dangerous things that can hurt or ruin your eyesight. To keep your eyes from seeing colours, you should be careful not to rub them. If you have long hair, you can tie it up in a bun so that the dye doesn’t get in your eyes. People can wear glasses to keep colours from getting into their eyes.

Holi 2023: Here are the 5 effective tips to protect your eyes while playing with colours

1. Wear sunglasses

When playing Holi, it’s a good idea to wear sunglasses or other eye protection. You can protect your eyes from the gulal and powder colours that can get into your eyes and hurt them by wearing eyeglasses.

2. Avoid wearing contact lenses

Holi is not a good time to wear contacts. If the colour does get into the eye, it sticks to the contact lenses and can cause damage that lasts longer, which can lead to more serious chemical damage. Also, any colour that gets on the lenses can leave a permanent mark on them, which means they have to be thrown away.

3. Avoid rubbing eyes

While playing Holi, try not to touch or rub your eyes. You might get the colour on your hands in your eyes. Any small thing in the eye that gets rubbed can cause a corneal abrasion, which is a painful scratch on the cornea that can get infected. If something gets in the eyes, the person should wash their hands well before touching their eyes or ask for help.

4. Put on some coconut oil

Coconut oil acts as a barrier that keeps dangerous colours from getting into our eyes. Just put a thick layer of coconut oil around your eyes and make sure it doesn’t get into your eyes. This will keep the colour from sticking to your eyes and the area around them. Then it’s easy to get rid of the colours.

5. Don’t try to treat yourself.

If you hurt your eye during Holi, it’s best to see an eye doctor. Not every eye drop is the same, and using the wrong eye drop can sometimes do more harm than good. If you get colour in your eye, you can safely wash it out with lubricating eye drops. When you use eye drops, it’s important to make sure they aren’t past their expiration date and haven’t been opened for more than a month. When you are having fun with colours, always try to tell the person not to get the colours near their eyes.
