China interrupts Dolkun Isa at UNHRC on Uyghurs, allowed to talk after US and Eritrea’s support

China interrupted Uyghur Congress president Dolkun Isa as he began speaking at the United Nations Human Rights Council about the dire human rights situation facing Uyghurs in Beijing.

China interrupted Uyghur Congress president Dolkun Isa as he began speaking at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) about the dire human rights situation facing Uyghurs in Beijing.

Dolkun Isa applauded the High Commission’s decision to bring up the Uyghur issue.

However, a Chinese diplomat shortly interrupted his speech, and the president of the UN Human Rights Council, Vaclav Balek, permitted China to make its statement. Dolkun Isa is not a representative of a “so-called NGO,” according to the Chinese diplomat, who referred to him as a “anti-China, separatist, violent element.”
The Chinese diplomat at the UNHRC stated, “Mr. President, we have cause to question the credentials of that speaker. He is neither the representative of a purported NGO nor a human rights advocate. He is rather a belligerent anti-China and separatist element.”

“Allowing him to engage in separatist activities in the Council would be a grave violation of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the Human Rights Council’s norms of procedure. We will propose, Mr. President, that the speaker’s speech be terminated and that the Secretariat verify his qualifications,” the Chinese diplomat added.

After the Chinese diplomat’s remarks, the United Nations requested a statement from the United States. The US diplomat argued, in support of Dolkun Isa at the UNHRC, that the speaker should be permitted to conclude their presentation.

The US envoy stated, “Without addressing the substance of the Speaker’s statement, we believe that what we have heard of the intervention thus far is relevant to the issue before this Council.” And we request that the speaker be permitted to complete their presentation.”

The envoy of Eritrea stated, “Well, form for NGOs with civil status…status should be the platform for those who have been permitted to continue steel operations. If there is evidence, and we’ve already raised this issue on multiple occasions, I believe it is our responsibility to request that the Secretary verify the identities of those abusing the platform.

After the United States and Eritrea supported Dolkun Isa, the UN official permitted the Uyghur activist to speak. He stated, “The increased demand from the UN special rapporteur and several reports on the crime against humanity and genocide perpetrated against the Uyghur and the Turk Muslim, including the High Commissioner’s report, demanded the immediate and urgent attention of this council last October….decision simply calling for a discussion on human rights education in the region.”

Dolkun Isa remarked that many member states voted against the poll or abstained. He stated, “Many member states voted against and abstained in the poll that this Council was unable to support this case decision, and we strongly condemn that country, especially the leading OIC state, that blocks this proposal.”

In his remarks before the UNHRC, Dolkun Isa praised the Somali people for voting in favor of the referendum. He discussed China’s policy regarding the Uyghurs.

He stated, “We uphold Somali for being the only member of the Muslim Council to vote in favor.” Last month at the United Nations, the Chinese government admitted that Uyghurs and two other individuals were sent to a concentration camp for minor offenses that do not constitute other crimes.

He continued, “According to an official document that was released, this individual is linked to a number of individuals convicted of terrorism and separatism, including my two brothers Yalkun and Isandokstar. Isa. We remind this council that the Chinese government’s extremism policies are not necessarily proportionate and legal. Finally, we request that the High Commissioner brief the council.
