The first match of the 3-match T20I series between India and New Zealand has been abandoned due to rain. In this match to be held in Wellington, not a single ball was bowled due to rain. The toss was to be held at 11:30 am Indian time for this match, but it could not be possible due to rain. Meanwhile, the rain had stopped for a while, but just as it seemed all was well, the rain intensified and continued unabated after that, prompting the umpires to call off the match after about two hours.
Both the teams will be making a fresh start in this series after their recent semi-final stage exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia. In the World Cup, India had to face defeat from the champions England. New Zealand were defeated by the runners-up Pakistan. The T20 International series begins on 18 November and ends with the third match in Napier on 22 November. The second T20 match will be played at Mount Maunganui on Sunday (20 November), while the first ODI will be played in Auckland on 25 November. The tour will end with the third ODI in Christchurch on 30 November.
