Israel passes law to strip ‘convicted terrorists’ of their citizenship

The Israeli House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a law to strip “convicted terrorists” of Israeli nationality their citizenship.

On Wednesday, the Israeli House of Representatives passed a law that will take away Israeli citizenship from people who have been found guilty of being terrorists. The government said that the convicted terrorist might be getting money from the Palestinian Authority because of this reason. The Times of Israel says that the law passed on Wednesday was a change to Israel’s Citizenship Law from 1952. The new law will apply to both Israeli citizens and permanent residents who are in jail because they were found guilty of terrorism or encouraging terrorism that could hurt the country’s sovereignty.

The Times of Israel said that the law will not only take away the person’s citizenship, but once that is done, the person won’t be able to set foot on Israeli soil again. The proposed change had support from both sides of the political spectrum, and 94 Ministers of the Knesset voted in favour of the law. Reports say that Likud MK Ofir Katz was the leader of the whole thing.

Katz said it was “the beginning of a new era.”
The Israeli politician said that the move was “the beginning of a new era.” He was happy about the victory. Katz said on the floor of the legislative body on Wednesday, “I know and feel from the bottom of my heart that making these kinds of laws is our real job as elected officials.” “I say unequivocally that a terrorist who gets money from the Palestinian Authority should fly from here to Gaza or anywhere else. Don’t sleep here. He’s not going to be here,” he said. A lot of trouble has been getting worse between Israel and Palestine. The Times of Israel said that the move came after the release of two well-known security prisoners. The Palestinian side was happy when the famous prisoners were freed. The new law could also be seen as an attempt to stop the Palestinian “pay for kill” operation. The Times of Israel says that under this operation, the Palestinian authorities regularly give money to terrorists who have been found guilty.
