Hasan Salihamidzic, the sporting director of Bayern Munich, expressed his “disappointment” with injured captain Manuel Neuer on Sunday, saying that Manuel Neuer “placed his personal interests before” the club. Manuel Neuer is currently sidelined with an injury.
The statement, which refers to an interview that Neuer gave to the publications Sueddeutsche Zeitung and The Athletic, is the most recent salvo in the ongoing verbal conflict between the club and its captain. Manuel Neuer, who is currently out injured with a broken leg as a result of a skiing accident in December, criticised the club’s decision to fire long-time goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic, saying that he felt “as if my heart had been ripped out.” Neuer is currently out injured with a broken leg as a result of the accident.
Sunday, Salihamidzic gave an interview to the German tabloid Bild, in which he said: “Although I feel sympathy for Manuel on a personal level, I anticipated a different demeanour from him as captain given the circumstances.
“Manuel has prioritised his own interests over those of the team, which is not a good move.
“Within our company, we’ll have a rational conversation about it with him.”
The controversy that has been going on off the field has been reflected by the dismal results that the German champions have had on the field in 2023, as they have not yet won a league match.
