Lionel Messi wins Laureus Sportsmen of the Year 2023 award

Lionel Messi was named Sportsman of the Year at the 2023 Laureus World Sports Award held in Paris on Monday.

Messi, who attended the ceremony with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo, was up against Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain for the award.

Additionally nominated were Formula One world champion Max Verstappen, tennis legend Rafael Nadal, NBA icon Stephen Curry, and record-setting pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis.

Messi claimed the award after leading Argentina to a historic victory at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

This was Messi’s second occasion receiving the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award.
