Yogi Adityanath, CM of UP, announced on Tuesday that the state will exempt the recently released film ‘The Kerala Story’ from taxation.

The Madhya Pradesh administration exempted ‘The Kerala Story’ from sales tax on May 6.
Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, announced on Tuesday that the state will exempt the recently released film ‘The Kerala Story’ from taxation.

Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, will view the film with his cabinet colleagues at a special screening at Lok Bhawan on May 12, according to the chief minister’s secretariat.

After proclaiming the film tax-free in the state, the UP chief minister viewed Akshay Kumar’s ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ at a special screening the year prior.

Abhijat Mishra, secretary of the UP BJP, recently showed the film to 100 female students in Lucknow. After Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh is the second state to declare the controversial film tax-free.

“The film depicts the destruction of daughters who fall victim to the trap of love jihad.” In a video message, the chief minister of India, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, said that it also reveals the terrorists’ plans.

“Although we have already passed a law prohibiting (forced) conversion, this film raises awareness of the issue.” This film should be seen by everyone, so the government of Madhya Pradesh has declared it tax-free,” he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has endorsed the film, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi referencing it during a campaign rally in Karnataka.

“The film ‘The Kerala story’ attempts to expose the effects of terrorism on a society, particularly in Kerala, a beautiful state populated by industrious, talented, and intelligent people. Last week, at a campaign rally in Ballari, Modi stated that the Congress party is attempting to prohibit the film and support terrorists.

The film depicting the forced conversion of females prior to their recruitment by the terrorist organization Islamic State has already sparked a political uproar across the nation. On Monday, the West Bengal government prohibited the Sudipto Sen-directed film.
