MS Dhoni, captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), underwent successful surgery on his left knee after laboring for the majority of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Dhoni, who was dismissed for a golden duck in the IPL final, led his team to a record-tying fifth title by beating the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the early hours of Tuesday, May 30. Throughout the 2023 season, Dhoni was plagued by a knee issue that required treatment.
Thursday, Dhoni underwent successful knee surgery at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai, according to a CSK source quoted by media.
“He is doing well and will be discharged within two days. A few days of recuperation would precede the beginning of his extensive rehabilitation. It is now anticipated that he will have sufficient time to recover before the next IPL.”
The former India captain performed poorly throughout the entire season and batted at No. 8 to avoid extended runs in the batting order. Now 41 years old, Dhoni required heavy strapping on his left knee to prevent severe injury and miss a significant portion of the tournament. He participated in all 16 games for the franchise, earning 104 runs.
Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported that Dhoni will seek medical advice before deciding whether or not to undergo surgery. The CSK captain is still hopeful of playing in the 2024 IPL season and has not ruled out the possibility of donning the iconic yellow jersey once more.
Yes, Dhoni will seek medical advice for his left knee injury before making a decision, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan told media on Wednesday.
If surgery is recommended, it will not be known until the results are in; it will be his decision alone.
Viswanathan also questioned Dhoni’s availability for the upcoming season, despite his assertion that he would play for the supporters for “at least” one more year. If Dhoni decides to retire from the IPL, CSK will have an additional INR 15 crore to spend in the 2023-24 mini-auction.

Dhoni and company required a last-ball finish to claim the IPL 2023 title in a rain-affected match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Ravindra Jadeja hit a six and a four off the final two balls to help CSK claim its fifth championship. The defeat of Gujarat Titans prevented them from defending the IPL championship, as they were unable to win the contest.
