Thursday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar conferred with his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang in the context of the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting. This was the first interaction of this nature between the two leaders.
The discussion between Jaishankar and Gang centred on the contemporary challenges to India and China’s bilateral relations. The meeting was primarily concerned with maintaining peace and tranquilly in the border region.

Speculation suggests that the two leaders discussed the protracted Ladakh border crisis during the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting. The meeting can be viewed as a continuation of India and China’s 17 rounds of high-level military-level discussions regarding the Ladakh standoff.
This is Qin Gang’s first trip to New Delhi since taking over the position from Wang Yi in December of last year.

Prior to his meeting with the Chinese foreign minister, Jaishankar met with his American counterpart, Antony Blinken, with whom he discussed bilateral relations and global issues, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
