On sidelines of G20 Jaishankar meets Qin Gang

This is Qin Gang’s first visit to New Delhi after he took over the post from his predecessor Wang Yi in December last year.

Thursday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar conferred with his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang in the context of the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting. This was the first interaction of this nature between the two leaders.

The discussion between Jaishankar and Gang centred on the contemporary challenges to India and China’s bilateral relations. The meeting was primarily concerned with maintaining peace and tranquilly in the border region.

“This afternoon, I met Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang on the margins of the #G20FMM. The focus of our discussions was on addressing current challenges to the bilateral relationship, particularly the maintenance of peace and tranquilly in the border regions. We also discussed the G20 agenda “After meeting Gang in the national capital, Jaishankar tweeted.

Speculation suggests that the two leaders discussed the protracted Ladakh border crisis during the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting. The meeting can be viewed as a continuation of India and China’s 17 rounds of high-level military-level discussions regarding the Ladakh standoff.
This is Qin Gang’s first trip to New Delhi since taking over the position from Wang Yi in December of last year.
