Pervez Musharraf: Sunday, the former general president Pervez Musharraf passed away in a Dubai hospital, according to reports cited by Geo News. He was 79. According to the source, Musharraf was receiving treatment for an illness in an American hospital in Dubai. Musharraf was born in Delhi on August 11, 1943, and attended St. Patrick's High School in Karachi for his early education. The former president attended Forman Christian College in Lahore for his higher schooling. Pervez Musharraf has been branded a fugitive in the murder cases of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and a Red Mosque cleric. The former president, who has resided in Dubai since 2016, was charged with treason in 2007 for suspending the Constitution. The former military dictator departed for medical treatment in Dubai in March 2016 and has not returned since. According to a Twitter statement from his family, Musharraf was hospitalised due to problems from amyloidosis, a medical disease he suffers from. Amyloidosis, a rare disease, causes the aberrant accumulation of certain kinds of proteins in various bodily tissues, resulting in organ damage. Musharraf gained to national prominence after Nawaz Sharif elevated him to the rank of four-star general in 1998, making him the leader of the armed forces. He spearheaded the 1999 Kargil incursion, which precipitated a war between India and Pakistan. In 2020, the Lahore High Court declared unconstitutional all actions taken by the government of Nawaz Sharif against Musharraf, including the filing of a complaint on a high treason charge and the formation of a special court as well as its proceedings, resulting in the abolition of the death sentence imposed on him by the trial court. In 1999, Musharraf seized power in a bloodless coup, deposing then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif. In order to avoid impeachment following the 2008 elections, Musharraf resigned as president and went into self-imposed exile in Dubai.
