Peshawar, PTI. Taliban militants have captured a center in Bannu Cantonment district of Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Along with this, some people were also taken hostage by the Taliban. Pakistan’s security forces launched a major operation on Tuesday to rescue the hostages safely. Explain that the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had arrested some terrorists on Sunday and they were being interrogated at the police station. Meanwhile, a terrorist snatched the AK-47 from the policeman and started firing.

Security officers engaged in rescuing hostages
Media reports said that security officials of Pakistan have launched a major operation to free the hostages from the Bannu CTD police station premises. According to the Dawn newspaper, footage aired on TV on Tuesday showed plumes of smoke rising into the air from the CTD complex. It was not immediately clear what happened to the hostages or the Taliban militants. The operation was launched even after the talks between the federal government of Pakistan and the Taliban militants did not yield any breakthrough for the second day.

The situation remains tense
The situation in Bannu district remained tense even on Tuesday. As police and security agencies have cordoned off the CTD premises from all directions and have asked the residents to stay indoors. As the standoff continued, a security alert was sounded and all schools and colleges in Bannu district remained closed.

Mobile services have also been suspended in the cantonment area and surrounding areas, officials said. A TTP spokesman, Muhammad Khurasani, said on Monday that they took the step following reports of inhuman treatment by security officials at the CTD police station towards their prisoners.
