PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline extended to June 30

If a taxpayer fails to link the two documents, his/her PAN card will become inoperative. The taxpayer will not be able to furnish, intimate or quote his PAN in such cases.

PAN-Aadhaar linking; The central government has extended the deadline for linking a taxpayer’s Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar. The deadline has been extended until June 30, 2023, per a statement from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). It was stated that a distinct notification is being issued in this regard. Linking PAN and Aadhaar is crucial for preventing tax evasion. If a taxpayer does not link the two documents, his or her PAN card will expire. In such instances, the taxpayer will be unable to provide, communicate, or cite his PAN.

The CBDT also outlined the penalties a taxpayer will face if his or her Aadhaar and PAN are not linked by July 1.

  • If the two documents are not connected, the screen will display the following message: “PAN not linked with Aadhaar. Please select the “Link Aadhaar” button to link your Aadhaar to your PAN.
  • The taxpayer will see the following message if the Aadhaar-PAN connection is in progress: “Your Aadhaar-PAN linking request has been sent to UIDAI for validation. Please verify the status later via the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ link on the homepage.”
