Nepal President to be flown to AIIMS Delhi for medical treatment

Ramchandra Paudel was airlifted to India for treatment after he was admitted to a hospital in Kathmandu for the second time within a month.

Nepal President to be flown to AIIMS Delhi : Wednesday, Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel was airlifted to India for treatment after being admitted to a hospital in Kathmandu for the second time in a month due to shortness of breath, according to his press aide.

Tuesday, Paudel, age 78, was admitted to the TU Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu. Initial investigation revealed that he suffered from a respiratory infection.According to the aide, President Paudel will receive treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

The President’s press secretary, Kiran Pokharel, stated that the President was airlifted to India around 10:30 am on Wednesday.Others accompanied him, including his son Chintan Paudel.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Purna Bahadur Khadka, and other dignitaries inquired about his health condition on Tuesday.The President complained of stomach distress last week. President Paudel was committed to a local hospital for the first time on 1 April after complaining of a stomach ailment.

Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting decided to deploy a team of government officials to facilitate his treatment, directed by the health secretary. A minister stated that the team will assess the nature of the President’s illness and report back to the government.After the committee submits its report, further decisions concerning the President’s care will be made.

The election of Paudel of the Nepali Congress as president of Nepal last month was a relief for the coalition government led by Prime Minister Prachanda.

Paudel, a common candidate of the eight-party alliance that included the Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist Center) headed by Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’, received the votes of 214 legislators and 352 provincial assembly members.
