The situation on the front lines in eastern Ukraine, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, has deteriorated while Russian forces claim significant gains in the region. After suffering a series of humiliating defeats, Russia has gained momentum on the battlefield and announced advances north and south of the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in Dontesk.

According to the Ukrainian military, Russian forces opened fire on Bakhmut and ten neighbouring towns and villages. The military added that Avdiivka, the nearby town of Maryinka, and some neighbouring communities were also struck.

2. The president of Ukraine, Zelensky, stated, “The offensive operations of the occupiers on the eastern front of our country have increased significantly.” The situation has become more difficult. On the anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine War, the adversary is attempting to demonstrate that Russia has some chances, he added in an evening video address.

3. The Russian Iskander-K tactical missile reportedly struck and damaged at least eight apartment buildings in Kramatorsk.

4. In January, at least 44 people were killed when a Russian missile struck an apartment building in the city of Dnipro.

5. Reuters reported that in the past 24 hours, Ukrainian forces repelled attacks on several Donetsk centres, including Bakhmut, Krasna Hora, and Blahodatne, while Russian forces claimed to have captured Blahodatne.

6. The defence minister of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, cautioned, “We keep telling our partners that we must be prepared for this as soon as possible. Therefore, we need weapons.”
