But the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has implemented new guidelines from January 20, 2023, so that authentic ads come in front of you and you are not misled. Advertisement on social media is a big business, in view of the rapid growth in online space in future, these new instructions have been implemented regarding its regulation.

10 lakh to 50 lakh will be fined

According to the ministry, there are more than 1 lakh influencers in the country. Meta and Avatar will also come under the purview of this guideline. Celebrities doing ads on social media will also come under its ambit. There will be a market of 2800 crores by 2025, in such a situation, these guidelines are necessary to protect the interests of the customers. For not accepting them, the influencers will have to pay a fine of up to 10 lakhs. For continuous contempt, a fine of up to 50 lakhs will have to be paid. Also, the endorser can be debarred from any endorsement for 2 to 6 months. The action of blocking that platform is also possible.

Giving wrong information or intentionally hiding any information while giving ads or any kind of promotion on social media, both of these will be punished under this guideline. It has been said that if advertising is being given, then it should not be while claiming the claims of the product. Nor do you have to put any pressure on the consumer regarding this. Under the new guidelines, misleading advertisements in every form and format will be banned. Apart from this, it has also been said that influencers and celebrities will endorse only those products which they use themselves. Along with this, they will also have to give a disclaime.
