Saturday, the CM of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, reaches at Balasore accident site, where three trains collided last night, resulting in 238 fatalities and over 900 injuries as of this morning.
Friday evening at approximately 7 p.m., 10 to 12 coaches of the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express derailed after colliding with a cargo train and falling onto an adjacent track near Balasore. The derailed carriages of the Coromandel Express were then struck by a train traveling from Yeswanthpur to Howrah.
Today, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the accident site and ordered a comprehensive, high-level investigation into the incident.
“A comprehensive, high-level investigation will be conducted, and the rail safety commissioner will also conduct an independent investigation,” Vaishnaw stated.
In the meantime, the Union Minister of Education and Skill Development, Dharmendra Pradhan, cut short his visit to Kolkata, West Bengal, and departed for Balasore, Odisha, where a passenger train derailed after colliding with a goods carriage and derailing several passenger coaches.
Today has been designated a day of mourning by the government of Odisha.
Pradeep Jena, chief secretary of the state of Odisha, stated that efforts are ongoing to cut the lone severely damaged bogie remaining after the tragic train accident in Balasore.
At a press conference, he stated, “There is only one severely damaged bogie remaining.” The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and the Fire Service are still attempting to cut the bogie and recover the living and the deceased.
After the horrifying train accident in Balasore, individuals formed a line to donate blood for the injured.
According to Railway spokesperson Amitabh Sharma, the tragedy occurred Friday evening around 7 p.m.

“Around 7 p.m., 10 to 12 coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed and collapsed onto the opposite track near Baleswar. After some time, a Yeswanthpur-to-Howrah train collided with the derailed carriages, resulting in the derailment of three or four of its coaches, Sharma told media.
