The sharp rise in violence between Israel and the Palestinians was seen by Russian President Vladimir Putin as a clear example of how the US’s Middle East strategy has failed. Vladimir Putin told the visiting prime minister of Iraq that Washington had tried to take over the search for a solution in the area.
“I think many people would agree with me that it’s a clear example of the failure of US politics in the Middle East,” he stated.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that Moscow has been in touch with both Israel and the Palestinians to help find a solution. He said this when he was asked about a claim by the Palestinian ambassador to Moscow that Mahmoud Abbas, the leader of the Palestinians, would soon be visiting Moscow. Dmitry Peskov said that the visit was planned before the war and that Moscow will make the date public as soon as it is set.
Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, said that making a Palestinian state was the “most reliable” way to bring peace to Israel because fighting terrorists alone would not keep people safe. Sergei Lavrov said that the best way to end the war is to make a “Palestinian state that would live side by side with Israel.”
He said, “We cannot agree with those who say that war on terrorism is the only way to ensure security.” He also said that Moscow was “deeply concerned that hundreds of Israelis and Palestinians have died and that the Gaza Sector has been declared a target for Israeli retaliation.”

Sergei Lavrov said that Russia had “serious questions” about the way the West spoke about Israel because “they say that fighting should stop right away and Israel should destroy the terrorists.” But they have done this before, and once things calmed down, they never realized that the main cause of the dispute needs to be taken care of. The Palestinian issue shouldn’t be put off any longer.
