The annual pilgrimage began four days ago, more than 50,000 devotees have visits the Amarnath cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas.
M Anapurna, a 67-year-old woman pilgrim from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, passed away on Monday at a hospital in Sonamarg, they said, adding that the cause of her death is still unknown.
A member of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) assigned to the Amarnath Yatra perished at Sonamarg in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir prior to the start of the pilgrimage.
Cardiac arrest, precipitated by low oxygen levels at high altitudes, is one of the leading causes of death among Amarnath pilgrims and security personnel stationed there.
In the first four days of the yatra, 54,714 devotees have had ‘darshan’ of the naturally-formed ice-lingam in the cave shrine, according to the officials.
Director General of the CRPF S.L. Thaosen evaluated the security arrangements for the yatra convoy along the pilgrimage route on Tuesday.

“CRPF DG S L Thaosen conducted a comprehensive assessment of the security arrangements for the Yatra Convoy. The CRPF tweeted, “He inspected Yatri camps in @KOSCRPF and deployment on the national highway to ensure the maintenance of the highest safety standards and preparedness.”
