The rising Indian wrestler and wife of Bajrag Punia, Sangeeta Phogat, stated on Friday that the we will continue to protest and fight for justice.
At Jantar Mantar in the nation’s capital, Indian wrestlers are protesting Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment. Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and a number of other prominent Indian wrestlers are participating in the protest against the WFI president.
“We didn’t get justice earlier. Previously, we fought for justice, and we continue to do so now. We will persist in this manner until the offender is punished. We will therefore continue to protest here. The females have accused him of sexual harassment, so a FIR must be filed and he must be punished in accordance with the law. Sangeeta Phogat stated, “As you can see, no one has visited us, we have not received a phone call, and no one has informed us that we will continue to protest for receive justice.”
Thursday, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Vinesh Phogat voiced her displeasure with comments made by Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha regarding the wrestlers’ protest against the WFI and its president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.
Earlier on Thursday, PT Usha stated that the wrestlers should have contacted the IOA rather than taking to the streets against the WFI and its president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, whom the wrestlers accused of sexual harassment and mismanagement of athletes.
“The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has a sexual harassment committee; instead of taking to the streets, the protesting wrestlers could have come to us sooner, but they did not. Usha stated to the media that it is detrimental to athletics for wrestlers to be undisciplined, and that they should practice discipline.
Wrestlers have expressed dissatisfaction with Usha’s remarks.
“As a female athlete, PT Usha does not heed to other female athletes. We’ve been influenced by her since we were children. “Where is the lack of discipline? We are seated in peace.” Sakshi Malik told mediapersons.
Vinesh Phogat, a medalist at both the Commonwealth Games and the World Championships, deemed Usha’s remarks insensitive.
“We live in accordance with the constitution and are free citizens. We may travel anywhere. If we are seated in the street, there must be a reason, a reason that neither the IOA nor the Sports Ministry listened to us. This statement is insensitive. “I even tried calling her, but she did not answer,” said Vinesh.

Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia added, “You feel sad when she says these things because she is the IOA Chief and a woman; she cried in front of the media for her academy.” She wants us to contact IOA, but we went there three months ago and were denied justice.”
