In the last few days, there have been several rumours claiming that Google is worried about ChatGPT and is vying for position in the AI-search market. Google recently released Bard, an AI-powered chatbot, adding fuel to the flames of such rumours. But Bard committed a factual mistake that has recently been pointed out in its very first demo. Additionally, the presenter was unable to demonstrate the phone at Google’s recent presentation in Paris since the gadget had been lost.
According to a Reuters story, the two occurrences caused Google’s parent firm Alphabet to lose $100 million in market value.
Google’s Bard commits factual error
In a Twitter promo for the chatbot, Google asks Bard to identify some recent findings made by the James Webb Space Telescope. Bard says in one of its points that the telescope captured the very first images of an extrasolar planet in its answer.
“JWST captured the first images of a planet beyond our solar system. These faraway planets are referred to as “exoplanets.” Exo means from outside, “Bard said.
That is not the case, however. According to NASA, the first photograph of an exoplanet was obtained in 2004. Reuters reported about the Google’s Bard mishap.
“This underlines the significance of a thorough testing process, something we’re beginning off this week with our Trusted Tester programme,” a Google spokesman said in response to the incident, according to The Verge. To ensure that Bard’s replies maintain a high standard for quality, safety, and information founded in real-world data, we’ll combine external input with our own internal testing.
Just before Google’s much anticipated press conference in Paris began, the inaccuracy in the demo video was pointed out. A presenter at the live-streamed event entered the stage to demonstrate the new Lens function. The sample phone, however, wasn’t there, thus the presenter was unable to continue with the presentation. The incident made some question whether Google is really losing sleep about the new participants in the market, even if the speaker handled it as gracefully as possible. Additionally, Google later removed the event footage.
As a consequence, Google’s parent firm Alphabet disclosed a loss in the stock market of USD $100 million.

Google, Bing, and ChatGPT
AI is the new buzzword, and since OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT became popular, the public has been exposed to a whole new universe of opportunities. ChatGPT is capable of a variety of tasks, ranging from writing code to producing poetry, and is frequently used. Microsoft and OpenAI have been partners for quite some time, and the two firms just announced that they are strengthening their cooperation.
Microsoft also just introduced a new version of their search engine Bing, which is driven on ChatGPT technology and is intended to directly compete with Google.

In an interview with The Verge, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that robust competition in the search industry would not just generate more revenue for Microsoft, but also for publishers and advertisers. Google is the 800-pound giant in the search engine industry, he said, but with the innovation that Microsoft provides, they (Google) will undoubtedly want to “dance.”
He said, “First and foremost, I have the utmost respect for Google and what they’ve accomplished. They possess extraordinary skill. I appreciate Sundar Pichai and his colleagues tremendously. I only want that we innovate. Today, we introduced further competitiveness to the search. We’ve been at it, trust me, I’ve been at it for twenty years and I’ve been waiting for it. But at the end of the day, they are the 800-pound elephant in the room, and I hope that with our invention, they will want to come out and demonstrate that they can dance. I want everyone to know that we made them dance, and I believe it will be a beautiful day.”Bard
